Summer in Gaia

Summer is here at last. Time to show off beautiful beach bodies, gorgeous hair and pretty feet! Time to start shedding layers of cloths, go barefoot, taking siestas and staying up late to enjoy the long cool mediterranean nights!
Our Gaia Girl Team has grown again and is planing a get-together on Mid Summer Night to spin some magic!  Our 3 girls Rosa, Corinna and Siska that are always at hand to advise and sell our Gaia Goodies in our shop at GAIAbathtime and at the Artesanal market events across the Island.
The upcoming event to look out for is the Selva Herb Fair next Sunday 14th of June. It really is one of Mallorca's  highlights and a must for your calendar. Rosa will be there with a full selection of Gaia products. The villagers rise early and go to gather Myrtle which is later destilled in a large Still in the middle of the village square.
Rosa will also be back at Sa Sagrera this year. Its a small crafts market just in front of La Lonja in Palma. The cute little row of craft stands sits just on the edge of the square and across from the sea  making it a perfect spot for a cool paseo and place to sit, have a drink and enjoy the cool evening.

Interview with Danae Borsani Yoga Teacher in GAIAbathtime.

Danae Borsani is the new Yoga Teacher at GAIAbathtime. For her young age she comes with an impressive array of experiences and references.
Young, motivated and dynamic she is taking Yoga at Gaia to the next level. She has completed two 200hr Teacher Trainings and several workshops studying with teachers such as Patti Quintero from Yoga Works, David Lurey, Rachel Brathen, Nico Luce, Simon Park and Jeanne Heileman. She has spend time in Thailand and Los Angeles deepening her practice and is giving Yoga classes at a number of studios here on Mallorca and is fast becoming a name in her own right.

We caught up with Danae to talk a bit more about herself and her work as a Yoga Teacher…

Name: Danae Borsani
Nombre: Danae Borsani

Age: 21 years
Edad: 21 años

Occupation: Yoga Teacher
Ocupación: Profesora de Yoga

Three trivial facts about yourself?
1. I love the ocean. Salt water is everything.
2. I am overly organised.
3. Tea tree oil. It’s all about Tea tree oil.

So how did this all start? Have you always been into Yoga ?

Well, I took my first Yoga lesson at the age of fourteen. My mother dragged me to it and I was not in the mood at all. Still though after Savasana, something about the lesson got stuck in my mind.
I remember looking at my teacher. Her voice was so light but strong at the same time. She looked relaxed (even in the 10th Utkatasana) but most of all, her body moved like she was walking on water. There was this energy that she radiated from herself, that felt like a blessing. Since that day, I knew Yoga will always be part of my life. I didn’t think about becoming a teacher myself. I just liked the life philosophy that Yoga teaches us.

You teach all your classes personally! Do you find that you have to rush between sessions and different studios?

No, not really. I like to plan my lessons in a certain way, to have enough time in between them, to ground myself again, come back to myself and then go out again and give my students the very best of me.

We love the  dynamic style of your classes. Where did the inspiration for it all come from?

The inspiration comes from my own personal home practice. I like to share my own practice in my lessons rather then ‘just teach a class’. I believe nowadays there are quite a lot of Yoga instructors out there and if we all teach in the same way, yoga wouldn’t be interesting anymore. I think, as a teacher it is important to bring across something original and if it something that comes from yourself then it will always be original.

How has your style  evolved in the last year?

My style has become more fluid and structured. I was taught good basics of how to teach sequences and I like to follow this structure because it always gives a special touch to my lessons. I have definitely  become much more patient. I enjoy surrendering into an asana (a pose) and hold it for a longer period of time.

There are many different types of Yoga. How would you describe your style?

I teach vinyasa Yoga.I am a big fan of Vinyasa Yoga because it flows. It is a very flowing practice, dynamic and at the same time a teacher can bring a lot of creativity into the practice. To me, it is a great style of Yoga because no matter to which teacher you go, you will always find a teachers personality in the lesson, recognise their personality in the structure of their class.

Red wine or white?
Red.

Why in your opinion are people looking to start Yoga?

I believe the reason people start Yoga is because the world has developed and advanced with technology and life rapidly and we, as people get lost and overwhelmed with it.
Yoga is like a homecoming to them. It makes them relax, come back to themselves and really live in the present moment. It does the exact opposite of the outside world.
To every action you need a opposite reaction and the practice of Yoga does exactly that. It shows you in fact, that what really matters is not a new phone or shoes but rather a new of mindset and perspective towards the world we live in.

When you could describe your personality with a type of yoga which one would you be?

I really like this question.  Definitely Vinyasa. I guess this is also why I teach it .. because it reflects my personality. It’s creative and you can personalise it very well. It’s very arty and having grown up in an artistic family it suits me very well.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

It’s hard to tell where I see myself in 5 years as you really never know what’s going to happen. I hope to see myself succeeding as a Yoga teacher, travel around the globe and teach in different countries and have the pleasure of making other people happy(ier). There are some other plans aswell but I have to keep them secret just in case they never work out ☺

What are your passions besides yoga?

I love cooking. Cooking is like  a meditation to me. I can’t live without good food. Also, dancing salsa. My parents have brought me to it and once in a while I go dancing with my dad and we dance the night away pretending to be in cuba ☺

Best season of the year and why?
Mejor estación del año?
Summer. You can be half naked all day & night long.

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate

If you won 20.000 Euro what would you do with it?

If I won that money, I would definitely buy myself a little bungalow somewhere next to the beach and fix it up. Maybe in Costa Rica or somewhere far away. I would also give some of it back to my parents who have raised me and paid all my school fees when I was young.

Thanks Danae!
