It was the first ever all Women's Martahon in Europe and Mallorca was proud to be hosting it. Gaia Bathtime was proud to be involved with the pre Marathon activities!
Following Pre Marathon recommendations we thought it to be a very good idea to offer lots of different chocolate treats during the Foot Spa. Jane Rolfe made her famous and fabulous chocolate cake and we cranked up our chocolate fountain!
Below you can find a recipe for making your own fizzing Foot Spa blend and the recipe for the Cocolate Cake that you all enjoyed on Saturday

Foot Spa Blend to make at home!

Dry Stage
1 Kg Baking Soda
0.5 kg Corn Starch Maizena
250 gr Salt
0.5  kg Citric Acid

Wet Stage
175 ml pepita d e Uva Oil
50 ml water
Dissolve 2.5 ml Borax in Water* optional
25 ml essential oil

Blend together well all the ingredients of the Wet Stage* When you think you have mixed it enough, always mix it a little more *
Mix together all the parts of your Wet Stage and moving fast and rigorously beat the two parts together. This step has to be done fast as you don t want all the fizzing reaction to happen in your bowl but later when you add a ladle full of the is deviously scented Foot Spa Blend to your Foot Spa. The Baking Powder and the Citric Acid work wonder in cleaning and softening the hard skin on your feet. The Grape Seed Oil and essential oils will hydrate and vitalise your feet! Happy Bathtime!

NOW … to the Chocolate cake!

Chocolate Cakes galore for
Marathon Runners

Jane Rolfe who kindly made all
Chocolate Goodies

This chocolate refrigerator cake is wicked! And even better, you don't need to do any baking  Jaimie Oliver
  • 200 g digestive biscuits
  • 110 g whole pecans, roughly chopped
  • 110 g pistachio nuts, peeled
  • 10 glace cherries
  • 2 ready-made meringue nests, smashed up
  • 150 g unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 200 g good-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids) or you can use
  • white chocolate

This chocolate cake is wicked! And even better, you don't need to do any baking.

Break the biscuits into small pieces directly into a large bowl. Add the pecans, pistachio nuts, cherries and smashed meringue. Put the rest of the ingredients into a second, heatproof bowl and either put this over a pan of simmering water, or into a microwave until melted.

Mix the contents of both bowls together and get yourself a container that will act as a mould. To help with turning the cake out, line the container with clingfilm, leaving plenty of extra clingfilm at the edges to fold over the top. Now spoon the mixture into the container. Put into the fridge to firm up, then turn out , removing the clingfilm, and cut into chunky slices.

This cake can be kept in an airtight container for a few days and actually improves in flavour after a few days.

If you're allergic to nuts then simply leave them out of the recipe.

EAT IT BEFORE A MARATHON!

Soap making Taller in Gaia

A day of learning to make soap as part of a team building experience for the Spa Therapist of Hotel Son Brull.

Romy and Carmen are both massage therapist at Son Brull in Pollenca. They came to spend a day at the Gaia Finca to learn how to process the Aloe Vera plant, make a perfume blend for soap making and to make 144 soaps for their Spa in Hotel Son Brull Pollenca.

 http://www.sonbrull.com/en/spa/

Over coffee and tea there was lots to find out about the history of soap, Aloe Vera and its properties and hints and tips on how to make the perfect soap. A soap needs to lather… what is the secret that will turn a soap into a cleansing experience?

Perfumes are created in layers. In the top layer the scent you will first get when you smell your product, to the heart which will make you want to embrace and love your product right through to the last layer, which will linger the longest and stay in your memory. Romy and Carmen created a scent reminiscent of Son Brull. They blended the scents of the citrus in the top layer, a heart of Lavender and finally Rosemary … to remember.
The soaps were enriched with oats to make it extra nourishing, salt to make them extra healing, calendula petals and grated lemon and orange rind to act as gentle exfoliators.
The finished results are beautiful citrus scented marvels, which have a a traditional even old fashioned, almost medicinal heart.

We like to show them all those  final touches which will make having a treatment with one of our products a complete sensuous experience. We call this Gaia Perfecting.

The training is done by our head therapist at Gaia who is also involved in the design of the products, creating the rituals and finally the menus. In this way we can be sure that the products are not just perfect for the client but also a pleasure for the therapists to work with.

Fasting for Health & Beauty

How to fast painlessly. Get fit, healthy and glow for Spring

At the end of winter we all find that we could do with shedding at least a couple of kilos and that our complexion is a little sad and lack lustre.
One way to tackle this that is not too difficult and painful is to fast a couple of days a week for a month or so.
Fasting is actually not as hard as it may sound and the body actually enjoys the two-day rest every week when it doesn t have to work so hard digesting.
The idea is to eat nothing solid, take just infusions and diluted fruit juices and in the evening eat a light vegetable broth made from veggie stock and a few vegetables… not potatoes! No alcohol obviously and try to manage without cafe… although this is a bit hard.

I actually really enjoy it. I don t have to think about what to shop or cook or prepare for elaborate meal time.I feel not only lighter, more energetic but also like I have more time for other things! Like writing Blog updates!
You will start to get that healthy glowing look, feel like you have lots of energy, stay awake all hours and your jeans will feel lovely and loose and not pinch you anywhere!
Hubby and i have managed to shed a couple of kilos each in this way!
Here are the ingredients for a simple vegetable stock

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter cold water
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 medium leek (white and green parts), rinsed and chopped
  • 1 medium rib celery, chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled and chopped
  • ½ medium turnip, chopped
  • ½ small tomato, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • 3-4 fresh parsley stems
  • 3-4 whole black peppercorns
  • 1 whole clove
Infusions are easy and you can buy a great many varieties. Simple and easy is also just a slice of Lemon in hot water. Same goes for a slice of orange. You can add a little grated ginger or some chilli pepper. This will warm you up as well when not eating makes you feel a little chilly.

Diluted fruit juice are also easy, grape juice is particularly nice as its high in natural sugar.
Happy fasting and let us have your fasting routines to publish here!
