Getting well after an accident or illness!

After a very mayor tumble with serious consequences just before Christmas, when I was doing nothing more dangerous then sorting the sock inside my boot, I found myself having to do heal and recover on a level that has been a learning curve for me.
At age 57 I have never really been sick or so badly hurt that I have had to put my mind on how to make myself better. As a mother of 4 I have over half a life time learned how to, often instinctively, make them better when they have had all those mayor and minor accidents and illnesses. As with a lot of people that know how to help other it took me a minute to remember how to do this for myself.
One of my mantras in the Gaia Bathtime is ' That when you are not well, may this be your skin or your body, treat yourself as if you are a newborn baby.' We have this tendency as humans to put our bodies through though paces when we are not well, in an effort to perhaps toughen the body up so it will cope better.

The one most important step to getting better is just the opposite. Take it very easy, be gentle with your body and listen inside of yourself to what it is that your body needs.

Eat lots of really nourishing and cell repairing foods that you love. Foods that you remember your mother making for you when you where not well as a child. Chicken Soup and a Green Bean Soup made with a good solid bone stock is what makes me feel that I as I am on the way to recovery. Bother recipes that stem back to my mother and grand mother.

To help repair some skin and muscle damage with serious scaring I found Royal Jelly. Initially to eat daily but also to put direct onto the scaring. Once on the skin it formed what appears to be almost like a layer of skin. It slightly shiny and once dry I put some Rosa Mosqueta Balm on top and just before re applying I gently rubbed it with some Rosewater. It grumbles away, exfoliating and leaving the scar looking better after each application. It has and is repairing my face at fantastic speed.

Neat Lavender essential oil helped to keep the wound clean, antiseptic and healing and repairing fast. To help disperse bruising it was the biggest helper. I could see a fast improvement after avery application of it.

Next to make myself feel better I had massage and and also self massaged using my very own Gaia Mature Goddess Oil. Not only the harmonising essential oils helped to make me feel better but I also noticed that comforting scents and the healing touch made me feel better.

Wearing natural fibres and the comforting warmth and feel of cashmere directly on the skin made me feel comforted like a baby.

I found myself responding to lovely smells and after bathing with nurturing bath oils, applying massage oils, royal jelly, healing balms and dressing in soft cloth I found myself reaching for my Perfume .....

So stay safe, don't rush and if you are healing ....treat yourself like a baby!
A very happy, healthy and successful New Year to us all!

Bob Marley Cover - Afternoons in Gaia Bathtime

The piano in our shop was initially a spontaneous  buy form a local junk shop. It turned out to have been a good buy, even a good piano. It sometimes attracts wonderful people making wonderful music for us, which transforms the shop for a little while into another world all together. Ike Leo, passing through Palma on his way home to Britain, after spending the summer making music in Ibiza, stopped buy and spontaneously asked to play our piano. We managed to record a small bit on our telephone.
The result we have loaded onto YouTube for your enjoyment.

Gaia Natural Products in Spa Bellesa de Claret

Proud to be supplying the Spa Bellesa de Claret Capdella Mallorca

We are proud to be supplying wonderful and natural Spa Products to the Spa of Son Claret for the start of the new season February 2015.
Son Claret is almost a neighbour to our Gaia Finca and it is wonderful to be supplying them with products that are grown on the same land. Staying in line with the original brief that had us making a scent for Son Claret back in 2012, when we were asked to make it smell like their gardens after the rain, we have chosen natural ingredients and scents for the Spa Rituals.
The Bellesa de Claret Spa will be offering the Gaia Rose Facial which works with ground, locally grown and harvested rose petals, a roses water hydrolate and lashings of cacao butter to deeply hydrate and nourish the facial skin and decolte.

Further they are adding to their menu an exfoliating body scrub made from almond oil, quince apple, grape seed and strawberry seed. The scent on the body glow is that of a walk through a Mallorquin forest, on the way to the beach to watch the sun set. It is perfect for the start of your holiday to prepare the skin for a beautiful even tan.

For lovers of a truly natural and simple treatment there is 'The Olive Tree Treatment' which is made up of all the elements of the olive tree, the leafs and pips of the fruit. It wonderfully rich, nourishing and perfect to fix your tan near the end of your stay so it will last you longer after your return to the real world.

A signature treatment with a specially prepared massage balm will carry the scent that is by now famous for Son Claret 'Jardi' . It is the scent of their garden after the rain!

We spend some time with the therapists in a training session to introduce them to our products and these are some pictures from the event.

Making a Perfect Blue Perfume

Working with Callum, who has the ability to smell colours.

This meaning that a scent to him has a colour and a colour has a scent.
We went in search of creating the Perfect Blue.

In conversation with this very gifted young man I found out that he can smell colours. Presented with all the essential oils in my collection he selected all the blue scents. He did this without reading the labels and then put them onto a colour wheel. According to him they ranged from light blues and turquoise to almost purply blues.

We then started by making a top note using citrus and fruit essential oils. Once Callum was happy and able to place the note on the colour wheel we proceeded to make a heart note in a separate vial.

When happy with this note and able to tell that it was going to make the light blue top note a little darker we put it together with the top note. Very happy with the result we repeated the step to make a bottom note. This also we added to the blend.

All it took was some very minor adjustments in quantity of essential oils in all notes and we had what Callum describes as a Perfect Blue.

He says the scent has the translucent turquoise blue of the sea in coves with sandy bottoms. When you wave your wrist about in front of your nose it smells like the sea lapping against some rocks.

To my nose it is a surprisingly rounded and perfect scent.

While looking for a colour wheel I found this photo of the Colour Wheel that Johan Wolfgang Goethe made that symbolises the human spirit. In the blue part of the spectrum he has sensuality and fantasy.

We are currently looking for the perfect bottle, designing the perfect label and making the perfect blue velvet sacks to present them in. Hopefully it will all be ready in time for christmas.

Fine Skin

Tips for taking command of bad teenage skin

We have the occasional requests to help deal with teenage skin problems and here is advice on how best to deal with out breaks of spots and worse.

Cleansiness is paramount.
1.Wash you face twice maybe even three times a day with soap and lots of clean water.
2. Never touch your face with dirty hands .
3. Wash your hair daily while trying to clear up a skin condition to keep the hairline of the forehead and neck oil free and clean.
4. Have regular hair cuts and if you are a boy keep it short.
5. Watch your shaving routine. Always follow the routine of using a pre shave oil, open the pores with a hot towel, a good antiseptic shaving foam and use disposable shavers with three blades. Try to only pass over the skin once to shave. Always use an After Shave to close the pores and disinfect.
 6. Out break of spots occur always in the same areas so as a cure and a prevention use a T Tree / Rosemary/ Lavender essential oil neat to put onto these areas. Roll on twice a day even when the skin appears ok!
7. Buy yourself a really good Concealer and use it! A really good one is from the Bodyshop with T Tree oil in it. It makes your skin look clear, give you the confidence that you are looking good and this will stop you from continually touching the spots. Not touching the effected areas is a big part of  clearing your skin condition.
8. Use a daily light moisturiser, even if you think that your skin is greasy and does not need one. It will help your skin to find a balance and stop it from oscillating between over and under producing its own oils.
9. Last and not least …. stay away from sweet sugar drinks as they are truly bad for your skin. Also cheap sweeties …. dark chocolate is fine!

For a personal consultation come by our shop Gaia Bathtime in Calle Corderia 28 in Palma and we will help you find a routine to help you improve your skin.

People with bad skin have tendency to punish their skin for being bad and tend to use products that are way to sharp. If you want to have good skin treat it like that of a new born baby and soon you will have truly fine skin.
