With quite a few weddings looming on the horizon at Gaia we have been busy making soaps as wedding favors.

New at Gaia is the concept to create a special scent for the day, the bride, the guests.

A scent is created after for example discussing the brides bouquet with her and her florist and listening to her wishes carefully for that special scent to commemorate her special day. We will then create this perfume and bottle it in a beautiful flacon for the bride herself and any of her special guests. The bride couples mothers, the bridesmaids ... special thank you's for wedding helpers. The scent as an Eau de Toilette could of course also be made to give to guests as a small gift to take home to remember the day.
We have a selection of beautiful hand blown bottles to choose from and can even fill small vials of the the precious perfume to hide in the flower table decorations to fill the space with your own memorable scent.

Mika - my first baby decided to arrive to this world quite unexpectedly. So as soon as I found out I was pregnant I started to realize how very true is the saying that pregnancy and birth are the ultimate test of character. Whether planned or unplanned, with every baby the mother is handed a blank page to write on and it is only up to her to create a Nobel prize novel or a crap read. Babies come equiped with the most sensitive radar picking up on your moods, tensions and insecurities already long before the birth.

It might as well be that the new spirit that came in the form of your baby has chosen you on purpose. I like to think that babies are old souls entrusted to us for guidance and sustanance on the physical level. Spiritually they are the most conscious gurus demanding us to be fully present here and now. Remember any baby has the potential to be the next Jesus, Budha or Allah, treat them with respect as such.

Además también tubimos el placer de compartir esta experiencia con sus respectivos familiales que no eran nada menos que una profesora de Química de Artá Tonina y una Higienista Dental Heike de Palma. Por la proximidad del dia de San Valentin se decidió añadir unos mensajes de Amor y un popurri de corazones en el interior de las Bathbombs y cada participante, pudo llevar a casa cinco Bathbombs de las que realizarón.

Weekend 5th of January saw Mallorca and the Gaia Finca under 30 cm of snow. Captured are beautiful images of our Aloe Vera, Lavender, Mimosa and Almonds under a deep covering of snow. Nature is surprisingly resilient and not even the delicate Almond blossoms appear to have suffered from the the sub zero temperatures. Seeing the frosted oranges and lemons is as as always surprising and delightful.

Workshops in Gaia Bathtime for March

Saturday the 30^th of January saw the first of workshops in the famous soap shop in Palma's Calle Corderia. The objective was to learn how to prepare and make scented Bathbombs. Gaia philosophy of never putting anything into their products that you would not put into your mouth being passed on in their teachings.

Producer and Founder of Gaia Natural Products Trudi Murray taught this workshop in person and showed the participant how a bathbomb can easily be made from all natural ingredients which you will find in most larders. The beautiful shop in Calle Corderia was the location for this workshop, opening especially for the occasion on a Saturday afternoon. Amongst the participants were two young girls of 8 and 11 called Leah and Marianna, both by coincidence were celebrating their birthdays and the taller had been their birthday present. Further we had the pleasure to show what we do to a teacher of Chemistry from Arta Tonina and a German Homeopath Heike from Palma.

With Valentine day so close Trudi chose to add Love messages and Love Pot Pourri to the Bathbombs and each participant was allowed to take home five Bathbombs that they made all by themselves. Tonina from Arta marvelled:’ Tan facil!’

Planed for the future are once monthly workshops showing various techniques and passing on know-how to enthusiast of hand made cosmetics and to pass on valuable knowledge and beauty pgilosopy to young people.

Planed for 17^th of March is the first of a two day work shop ‘Make your own soap’.

December saw the Christmas fair at the Pueblo Espanol, womaned by Trudi with help of her youngest son Max.
A beautiful stand in stunning surroundings and of course we also spend days in Andraitx were Kate , Trudi's apprentice run the stall set up in the square while Rosa spend the day at Puerto Portals. Thank you to many of you for visiting, catching up and being supportive. Still to come the Christmas market in Alaro 17th and 18th of December.We will have in the usual Christmas tradition a glass of cava for you at our stand ... not just to celebrate Christmas but also the safe arrival of our latest Gaia addition, Blanca 's first born Mika.

Easy pregnancy tips from Gaia Mum to Be

PREGNANCY!? EASY DOES IT!!!

As some of you probably noticed we are expecting a new Gaia baby very soon! So I am writing from the first hand experience - it is less then 3 weeks to go ONLY now til my first baby is born. Now in my last month I am still teaching yoga, massaging and very much enjoying my bicycle ride to work, which I thought would never be possible that late in the pregnancy.

So how is that possible? Here are few things that I have learnt from my own pregnancy and from experienced super mums like Trudi around me.

What to keep in mind when you are expecting:

To start with - the beginnings are always the hardest, you will never be so tired and dozed later on, so just hold out! Chocolate is a great help as always and plenty sleep does miracles. Take it easy, you have plenty time left till the baby´s here!Remember it only gets better with time.

Keep active - once your body adjust to the pregnancy hormonal coctail. Get back into action, mornings might not be the best time anymore - I bid farewell to my favourite morning yoga practice right in the first month. But later in the day once the tummy settles is perfect time. Come and try our pregnancy yoga with added visualization on easy birth.

Enjoy your little secret - especially if the pregnancy comes as a surprise, take all the time to adjust before you start telling. A little secret is always nice to share with your beloved complice - the new daddy. New baby, new life is a gift from heaven so treat it that way. I waited almost five months and they have been great months to share my special gift just with my most important ones.
Also it is much better fun to tell people about that baby when you actually feel well enough to enjoy the news and celebrate with them.

Never run on empty - smart mum always has something to nibble on in her hand bag. Avoid getting too hungry, that´s when sugar drops and you start feeling dizzy and irritable. It is a good habbit to get into when your baby grows a bit, he/she will want its share from your bag too!
And NO, you don´t need to eat for 2! It is all about same amounts, just more often.

Watch that skin care - comitted massaging after every shower is a must. The one and only prevention of stretch marks is to keep your skin elastic and subtle with the natural oils - don´t skip anywhere - belly, breast, hips and lower are crutial zones. If you are not sure what to use, come and talk to us in Gaia - I have just blended a beautiful pregnacy pick-up oil for lovely Silvana from Esporles in her 7th month of pregnancy.
Be prepared that with every extra month the skin pulls more - when you feel your belly itchy and dry that´s when you know baby´s growing. In the last month of my pregnancy I am hooked on rose water and the GAIA baby range - who says that only babies need gentle natural cosmetics!
If you don´t have the energy to massage your belly and sore back yourself, bring us your man, we will teach him what to do in our private massage tuition.

Imperfection and less efficiency? Don´t worry about getting less done. People will never again in your life be so forgiving and understanding as when you are pregnant.

A Success Story

Gaia Natural Products first made its appearance in Mallorca after founder Trudi Murray replicated the old fashioned way to produce soap from local island oils. The inspiration came after reading about the soap manufactory and trade of a soap factory in the port of Andraitx in the 1930. Soap was produced here from locally grown olives and exported by boat to Cuba from where it would return laden with sponges. The factory later grew to open another branch in Bunyola were it remained until the 1980. In fact it was the last remaining member of the saop making dynasty that first sampled Trudi’s soap and deemed it ‘excellente’ and signed an aval for her to become an Artesan soap maker. Passing the examination set by the board of Artesania she has been a Master Artesan since 2005 and can proudly display the award for Artesania in the Baleares.

In 2008 the first Gaia shop proudly opened its doors in the Calle Corderia which is in the historical artisanal quarter of Palma, where to this day you find basket makers, candle makers and now again soap makers. The shop sells a wide range of soaps but also a large assortment of handmade cosmetics for women, men and children. The interior is an eclectic mix of vintage furniture and intriguing antique collections, from old perfume bottles to old cameras.

In 2009 Blanca Ticha joined Gaia Bathtime as the resident therapist and yoga teacher. Blanca has made her way to Palma de Mallorca across half the world via Japan, Thailand, India and New Zealand. Living and practicing bodywork in each of these countries has been a life-transforming experience to her both on a personal and professional level. Last but not least the latest branch on the Gaia tree is Corporate Gaia which offers a mobile team, headed and trained by Blanca to visit large offices in Mallorca. ‘Through our work at Gaia Bathtime we had become increasingly aware of neck and shoulder pains as a result of repetitive desk jobs and stress at work, ‘recalls Blanca.’ The obvious step was to work in conjunction with employers to reduce this strain on staff by offering 15 minutes chair massage a week to reduce these incidents.’ The idea has proved a success as many employers find it a useful total quality management tool and absence at work as a result of RSI could be significantly reduced.

Leaving the island at the end of the summer to recover from sheer mountains of work that we were lucky to have at Gaia, my husband Eric, our dog Remy and I headed for cooler lands. France is always one of our favorite haunts and we return over and over and always delighted.
We started our trip with delivering to our new client with a beautiful shop 'Parsimonia' in Barcelona and ended the trip with a visit to admire their mounted display.

While in France I couldn t resist visiting a local soap factory/ museum/ shop.... and yes I did buy some soap! The soap here is made in a different way then the Gaia soap. The fats are heated to very high temperatures, the lye is also added at high temperatures and the soap mass is thick, hot and volatile, essential oils are added at this point and after stirring and watching they do a lick test; with their tongue to see if the chemical reaction is finished. If it does not sting your tongues the soap is poured into giant molds, cut still hot after 24 hours then pressed and kept for a very long time before wrapping and selling. Our soaps if you are wondering are made at 30 degrees C and no we don' t lick them to see if they are ready to pour!We pour into individual molds while it has the consistency of custard, store and dry for three weeks before wrapping and selling!

I also visited a wonderful Sunday morning flea market in Montreuil Bellay which was another highlight of our trip.My husband comfortable in a coffee shop with dog and newspaper and me searching for wonderful quirky items to bring back for the Gaia Bathtime shop; there isn t a better way to spend Sunday morning.

I found gorgeous vintage under wear, men's toiletry kits and 1940 and 50 evening bags.

A another new discovery was French scented paper also a very old tradition. Beautiful sheets of flowery, beautiful smelling papers to line your draws and wardrobes and small pieces to burn to scent and purify your home. I suspect we might try and stock these in Gaia Bathtime.

With the focus to concentrate on Holistic Bodywork Laura studied the BTEC Diploma in Holistic Massage Therapy (Level 4) with the renowned London school, Essentials for Health.

In Gaia she specializes in Holistic Massage Therapy and is continuing her studies in Sports and Remedial Therapy, Infant and Pregnancy Massage,as well as planning to study other forms of bodywork, such as Lomi Lomi, Cranio-Sacral/Indian Head Massage and Spa Therapies.

Getting to the end of the summer and having to face, what here on our island we call 'Mallorca Feet', my friend Olli and I took a trip to the Paguera Fish Spa.
Lots of barefoot walking, slingback shoes, sandals and flip flops have trashed everyone's heals and we have feet that stick to the mosquito net at night.
Having girly time, sitting together, feet in water, chatting while small fish are nibbling away at your feet is a novle new way to spend Friday evening.
Greg the owner of the Paguera Fish Spa ia at hand with friendly information about his small, busy and endlessly enthusiastic work force.' They don't actually eat the dead skin of your feet but kind of sand it off with their snouts. It's their re-creations ', he tells us,' This is like they would while the day on a coral reef.' Olli and I are of course delighted to hear that the fish are having a nice time too.

Greg feeds them at the end of their working day and changes their water a number of times a day and finishes each day by hoovering out the bottom of the tank to remove dead skin.
And 'YES' he has had some pregnancies and a few new arrivals among his fish.
Prior to our own appointment Greg had a birthday surprise group. Cake,champagne and feet in the tank, lots of happy laughter - a most unusual birthday party.
The verdict on our feet after 15 minutes in the tank? Very, very soft and amazingly clean. THANK YOU to Greg and his team we had a lovely time!

During August 2011 Gaia Natural Products is introducing an update of their successful 'body spa' kit which consists of soap and polisher. Both of these products are generously enriched with Flor de Sal de Cabrera and with a variety of other exfoliants. These give a peeling effect to the skin and contain minerals to nourish and heal the skin.The brainchild of this product, Trudi Murray, creator of Gaia Natural Products, has perfected the highly successful 'bodyspa' range after its first three years on the marketplace.

This weekend see Gaia Natural Products at two local Fiestas that are well worth a visit.
Saturday the 6th of August finds a local cafts fair in Sant Telmo to celebrate the occasion of the battle between the Moros and the Cristians. An excellent battle is acted out on the beach at sunset time and later in the night there are fabulous firworks. Many local arts and crafts stalls are set up along the promenade which these days is a hive of new activity with life music, bars and ice cream shops.

Seit kurzem kann man sich dort in angenehmer Atmosphäre überschüssige Hautschuppen von den Füssen von kleinen Fischen (Garra Rufa) abknabbern lassen.
Ich war doch sehr erstaunt wie weich meine Haut nach zwanzigminütiger Behandlung war. Es ist mal etwas ganz anderes und ist auch nicht teuer.

Gaia Bathtime entering the Balcony Competition

Firstly this month saw the anual, obligatory fiesta time in our Bario. One of the traditional competitions that everybody loves to enter is the best decorated balcony competition. This year Gaia Bathtime entered aswell displaying, of course, a GAIA blue lady in her bathtub complete with shower curtain, shower cap and of course her soap. The absolute winner however was our neighbor who diplayed a giant octopus from his balcony.

The magical night of San Juan on 23 June is a very ancient festival which celebrates the arrival of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere whose principal rite is a fire. The purpose of this ordinance was "to give more power to the Sun " from those days, was becoming "weaker" the days are getting shorter until the winter solstice. Symbolically, the fire also has a function "cleansing" in the people who watched.

Trudi, the founder of Gaia Natural products has been spending time researching shaving needs of men and has found that the average man spends almost two years of his life shaving.

‘Shaving therefore’, she concluded, ‘should be an immensely pleasurable ritual to perform’.

Taking inspiration from the old fashioned barber’s ways she has formulated a

GAIA pre shave oil which is made up of glycerine, EVOO, almond oil, sunflower oil, jojoba oil, grapefruit seed extract and benzoin tincture. Once applied, a hot wet towel should be placed over the area to be shaved. This will open up the pores, make the whiskers stand up hard allowing for a closer shave but still sliding over the oiled skin effortlessly. All ingredients work together to prepare the skin for the blade to slide across it and to avoid chafing and resulting irritations.

In the next stage of the shaving ritual an old fashioned badger hair shaving brush is used to make a luxurious lather using the Gaia shaving soap which has been enriched with kaolin clay for exceptional lathering soap properties..

After shaving and washing of the shaving soap the Gaia After Shave is applied followed by a finishing touch of the Gaia Shaving Balm. The balm is especially formulated with ingredients like hamamelis and benzoin to avoid in-growing hair, resulting skin irritations and shaving rash. Toning and softening skin ingredients like shea and cacao butter have been chosen with care and extra organic bees wax has been added to give the finished feel and look to a mans face.

All men who tested the new range found it satisfying and reported revived enjoyment of the shaving ritual, fine smooth and irritation free skin. Young men, new to shaving, found that skin rushes and irritation were completely eliminated and skin problems due to hormonal developments were considerably reduced.

Selva Herb Fair is actually one of the nicest fairs on the island of Mallorca to visit. A giant distillation aparatus is set up in the square and young and old get up early on the morning of the fair and walk into the surrounding countryside to collect Myrtle which is then distilled over the best part of the day. Myrtle water was exported from Selva all over the island and even into the world beyond Mallorca in the olden days. Myrtle water was famous and used as a disinfectant, as an Eau de Cologne or as a Splash to make your house entrance smell lovely and clean! So with our soaps, handmade cosmetics and Body Splashes we are in the right place to continue in the tradition.
During the morning the famous mallorquin Giants leave their place in the Town hall which is right in the square and march around the village.

Yesterday saw the launch of the new Gaia baby Range with a small reception at the Gaia Bathtime shop. A number of Mums with their babies, ranging in age from 4 weeks to 6 month, attended a workshop on Baby Massage and to learn some basic baby reflexology using of course the new Gaia Baby Massage Balm. The workshop was headed by Eva de Souza who has joined Gaia Therapies.

We met for the first time yesterday Baby Gaia who is now already 4 weeks old but was still the youngest to attend the workshop.
The atmosphere yesterday afternoon was delicious, with proud parents, relaxed and happy babies and everybody just smiled and smiled. Eva demonstrated simply but effective massage strokes that are useful in helping your baby and yourself relax, as part of building a bedtime routine and a simply wonderful way to transmit your love for your child.

Además, colocar algunos pétalos de rosas secos entre la ropa blanca, o en el guardarropa, equivale a acrecentar la atracción personal y a obtener éxitos en el campo de los negocios.

Las plantas de la salud:

Los nacidos bajo el signo de “Tauro” se encuentran particularmente favorecidos por la coincidencia de su signo con la estación primaveral, cuando las hojas y la corteza de ciertas plantas están llenas de savia y de preciosos aceites, y zumos medicinales.

Aprovechen este período para hacer una buena provisión de un grupo de plantas que serán muy beneficiosas para este signo.

El abedul: recoger sus hojas en el mes de myo y dejarlas secar a la sombra; 3 gramos de hojas en 100 gramos de agua caliente sirven para preparar una tisana con poder diurético y antiúrico. Se pueden beber de 3 a 5 tacitas al dia.

La salvia: para preparar un óptimo digestivo, recoger las hojas y usarlas tanto si están frescas como desecadas; meter unas pocas en una taza de agua hirviendo y dejarlas unos minutos; luego filtrarlas y endulzar.

Las margaritas dobles o “bellis perennis”: sirven para preparar eficaces emplastos contra contusiones, distorsiones o forúnculos; se deben coger las hojas más tiernas y aplastarlas con un mortero u objeto cualquiera hasta reducirlas casi a polvo.

Join us for a traditional kirtan - mantra singing accompanied by harmonium and drums as practiced in India. The mantras form integral part of yoga practice and offer opportunity calm the mind and balance out the breathing patterns. The kirtan will be followed by sufi meditation that also actuates over the body and mind through the sound vibration. It is quite unique practice, but with many profound benefits so I honestly recommend to try it out.
